The first command is Fit UV Coordinates to Map. The second plugin, Planar Map by Material, actually includes three new commands. This allows you to easily break a model into sections along its creases for easier texture mapping, or many other purposes.

The result is that contiguous areas are all set with the same palette material, and a new material is applied wherever a discontinuity occurs. For each selected area, the plugin creates a new color in the palette and “flood-fills” the area until the angle between the surfaces exceeds the crease angle of the mesh. Give it a try.The first plugin, Set Material by Crease Angle, sets the materials of a model based on the crease angle of the mesh. If you do not use that routine before you use the exporter, that might explain some of your reports. There is an FG wiki which can help you make textures. Any other textures in the SketchUp paint box are copyrighted by the owners of SketchUp so we must not use them.

Only 'Named Colours' are available for that use in SketchUp. If you intend sending your model into the FG DB it must be GNU GPL. If you export with parts selected, only the selected parts are exported.Ĥ. If you don't do that there might be part of your model which is selected. When you are ready to export, make sure to click on the background in SketchUp. Remember to change back to View/Face Style/Shaded with textures when you've finished reversing.ģ. If any surfaces are showing the dull purple colour they need to be reversed (right click and select 'Reverse faces") because they are inside out and will not render the colour or texture applied to them. Check to see all of your model surfaces are white. In the 'View' menu, select Face style/monochrome. Keep selecting all and exploding until the 'Explode' option is no longer available.Ģ. If there are groups or components select 'Explode'. You want the whole model to be made up individually. Select all, then check that there are no components or groups in your model (Edit menu). If you don't check these things all sorts of funny things happen with your export.ġ. There are a few things which need to be done when you've satisfied yourself that your model is finished but before you export.
#Ac3d plugin mac
However, I'm an experienced Mac user and I do a lot of SketchUp modelling so I'll start there. You are obviously more up to date with your computer knowledge than mine (at least 25 years ago with main frames) and the first difference is that I don't watch the reports like you do. Please stop me if I treat you too simply. (I'm taking a whack at modeling the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, it's very rough so far, I'm a programmer not an artist.)Īnyhow - wanted to post and find out if this is something that's already well known or not. I'm wondering if it couldn't find a material to use for the plain colors, or if it was having trouble figuring out which material to use for the brick pedestal.
#Ac3d plugin code
From a quick look at the code and the call stack, I'm questioning the fact that my model contains one element with a brick texture, and three others with just plain colors. Got a NoMethodError when I tried to export my model. First attempt at using the Ac3d plugin with Sketchup 8 on my Mac.
